Become an Urban Terror 4 level designer by starting with these directions.
Everything you need is right here, in one big awesome package. If something doesn't seem to work correctly, step backwards and attempt to identify the behavior of the problem. Most (or all) have already been ironed out for you.

Said what? Example aliases used in the document:
    /quake3 - i.e. c:\program files\quake3
    /q3ut4 - located in your quake3 directory
files/ - unzipped folder named files in the quake3/q3ut4 directory

The new Urban Terror 4 presents a great opporunity to start fresh.
We'll take advantage of this situation by starting and moving forward with only Urban Terror 4 files, referencing legacy q3ut3 files for historical purposes. The source q3ut4 file, zpak000.pk3, contains just about any source you'll need to immediately get into level design. However, you don't have the tools or know how to make a map. And so it begins... Remember, the community is nothing without contributions.

You will first need Urban Terror 4.
Get ioUrbanTerror and the large pak file from
http://urbanterror.net. Check Midgetkiller's tutorial for assistance.

Open q3ut4/zpak000.pk3 in winzip. Extract all files into q3ut4. Your winzip extraction should look like this:

Your q3ut4 directory should look like this after extraction: (sorted by type)

If you have already extracted zpak000.pk3, you don't need to do it again. Keep zpak000.pk3.

Be sure to preserve the directory structure otherwise all extracted files will end up in the same directory (this will be messy). i.e. if your directory doesn't look something like the above image, you've done something wrong.

Secondly, repeat this process with ut4_mapmaker_v02.pk3 to extract the mapmaker files. You now have all source files to begin the installation.

    Run the batch installer.
This is the extremely fast and handy way to hit the ground running. Possibly weeks or even months of confusion can be shaved off by having all of the resources placed right where they need to be. Follow the instructions and the batch script will do the rest.

Run INSTALL_urt4_mapmaker_v02.bat by double-clicking it in explorer, or from [Start -> run -> cmd] and cd to your q3ut4 directory.

The batch installer gets you through the entire install process for gtkRadiant, including applications, exe's, scripts, files, cleaning up mapmaker_v01, etc.

    The basic necessities.
Know where to find some of the basic documentation. The five concise tutorial pages here will also guide you to the various documentation that's not immediately apparent.

    You'll want to know about:
    Look at the docs/shader manual!
It's also included in radiant folder, but isn't sorted as well.

    Look at the q3map2 handbook!

Print a copy of the gtkRadiant keyboard shortcuts!
Also available included in .rtf format.

There are other manuals included with gtkRadiant-1.4.

You're ready to go! Everything is in place, waiting to be used.

    What's next.
Radiant is installed and configured. How do you use it?
